Kabelo Seakanyeng says he is a happy man after playing an integral role in helping his team, Olympique Club de Khouribga (OCK), to gain promotion from Morocco’s Botola 2 (First Division) to the Maghreb country’s elite league, Botola Pro.
“Skhebo,” as the hard working and swift bantam player is known here at home, joined OCK late last year alongside compatriots Tumisang Orebonye and Simisane Mathumo (now back home owing to an injury).
They were roped in to aid the team gain promotion back to the elite league, a purpose now fully achieved. OCK booked their ticket back to the Botola Pro after defeating log leaders Raidi Salmi 1-0 on Friday 2 July to cement their top-two finish in the Botola 2. The top two teams at the end of every Botola 2 season are assured of automatic promotion to the Moroccan premier league (Botola Pro). Botola 2 teams will play their last matches of the season today (Friday 9 July).
“I am happy to have helped my team gain promotion to the elite league,” Skhebo told this publication in a telephonic interview from Morocco. “It was not easy, but due to the hard work that we put in throughout the season, we have managed.”
Asked about attracting the interest of other teams following the splendid season that he had, Skhebo answered that he has a contract to honour. “I still have a running contract with OCK,” he said. “I am focused on it and my heart is with the team.”
This is the man who has provided eight assists and scored seven goals in the course of this season. The 27-year old breezy winger told this publication earlier last month that he would like to play European football again. “Like any other player, I always aim high and want to see myself playing European football,” Skhebo said recently. “That is my dream and I am going to chase it until I catch it.”
Before joining OCK, Skhebo enjoyed a short stint of European football on the Mediterranean island state of Malta where he played for First Division side Lija Athletic FC between September 2019 and March 2020. He has also enjoyed a short spell in the South African PSL where he played for Chippa United. In his native Botswana Skhebo played for BDF XI and Gaborone United.
