The Future of Mining Summit, Botswanaโs premier mining conference, is set to return for its second edition on 18-19 June 2024 at Boipuso Hall, Fairgrounds in Gaborone.ย
Organised by The Projects Magazine in partnership with the Botswana Chamber of Mines (BCM) and endorsed by the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, this yearโs summit will be held under the theme โNew Opportunities, Smart Partnerships.โ
The high-profile event aims to promote Botswanaโs position as Africaโs leading mining investment destination, drawing international delegates, investors, and industry leaders for discussions on mining sector transformation. The summit enjoys the backing of key institutions, including the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB), underscoring its strategic importance to the countryโs mining industry.
Last yearโs inaugural summit set a high benchmark, attracting over 470 delegates, including 13 CEOs, and featuring three ministerial addresses. This year, the event is expected to draw 1000 attendees, with over 300 international delegates, solidifying its reputation as a must-attend conference for industry stakeholders.
Key discussions at the summit will focus on technology in mining, renewable energy, access to finance, future skills, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), Public-Private Partnerships, community engagement in mining, and the importance of provenance in the industry, particularly the diamond industry, which is currently facing challenges.

The summit has already confirmed the participation of top government officials and industry leaders. Vice President and Minister of Finance, Ndaba Gaolathe, will officially close the summit on Day 2, while Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Kenewendo, will deliver a keynote address on Botswanaโs mining outlook on Day 1.
Several international speakers have already confirmed their participation, including Brendan Harris, Group CEO and Managing Director of Sandfire, Charles Fitzroy, President & CEO of Giyani Metals, and Khumo Nyenyiwa, Mine Planning Superintendent at Kenmare Mines. Leading local mining industry executives such as Andrew Motsomi, Managing Director of Debswana, Edwin Elias, CEO of Morupule Coal Mine, and Naseem Banu Lahri, Managing Director of Lucara Botswana.
