Years of EU dependence weighed down BMC – Dikoloti

For decades, the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has relied heavily on the European Union (EU) as its primary market. Under preferential trade arrangements such as the SADC/EU Economic Partnership Agreement, Botswana has enjoyed duty-free, quota-free access to Europe’s premium beef sector.

While these arrangements brought prestige and high prices, they also fostered dependency, which, according to Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Lands, Edwin Dikoloti, has contributed to the Commission’s current challenges.
