The world’s third joint-fastest men’s 800m athlete of all time (1:41.73 seconds), Nijel Amos, has not communicated with the local athletics mother-body in Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) on his intention to pursue his career as a solo athlete, BAA vice president administration Oabona Theetso has said. “We just saw the statement on Facebook,” Theetso briefly told this publication. “He is yet to communicate with us officially.”

Amos took it to his official Facebook Page last night to ask his followers/ Batswana to include him in their prayers for his next phase as a professional athlete. “Sadly, I am pursuing going into the scene as an independent athlete – it’s what’s best for my family and I,” he said on the post. “When you don’t feel appreciated and undermined you got to stand for yourself. Botswana National Olympic Committee thank you so much for all the years you have been in my corner. Let fire performance begins World champion in the making. Can’t put greatness down.”
