- As SLK Groups of Camps comes on board to sponsor the BONA Fast 5 tourney for three years
Eco-tourism and hospitality company, SLK Group of Camps, has injected P234 000 into Botswana Netball Association (BONA), this publication can reveal.
This comes as the women’s senior national netball team prepares for the Africa World Netball Cup Regional Qualifiers that will be held in Pretoria from 20 to 27 August 2022 while the men’s national netball team readies for the first edition of the Africa Men’s Netball Cup tourney that will be played at a venue and date yet to be announced.
The SLK Group sponsorship will fund the BONA Fast 5 tournament for the three years with the first edition of the competition beginning this Saturday (30 April) at BONA courts in Gaborone. BONA uses the tournament to select the men and women’s senior national teams for upcoming international games and competitions. The tournament will see the teams playing with five players (5-a-side) and not the traditional seven-a-side.
“We are thankful to SLK for coming on board as our sponsors,” said BONA spokesperson, Mokeresete Mokeresete, in a telephone interview. “This sponsorship will go a long way towards readying our national players for upcoming international competitions.
“The tournament is going to give them the much-needed practice. Our aim as the association is to keep our players as active as possible this year so that they remain mentally, physically and tactically fit for upcoming international assignments.”
Earlier this year, BONA unveiled Lucara as sponsors of the national netball league that is expected to start in May. The mining company has injected P300 000 into the league. These sponsorships are bringing much relief to netball and its supporters after the code struggled to secure financial backing for several years.
