Ditlhokwe Tipped to Excel at Kaizer Chiefs

After recently singing a pre-contract with South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United defender Thatayaone “TT” Ditlhokwe has been tipped to shine at the Naturena-based outfit. The Zebras captain joined Matsatsantsa, as SuperSport United is otherwise known, from Township Rollers in January 2020 and has since made 70 league appearances for the Tshwane-based side, scoring three goals, two of which he netted this season. [ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type="show" ihc_mb_who="1,2,3,4" ihc_mb_template="1" ] The 24-year-old is now on his way to Amakhosi, as Kaizer Chiefs is affectionately known, where he will start on 1 st July, unless the two clubs can agree for his early release. He signed a four-years contract (pre-contract) with Amakhosi. Said renowned football analyst, Jimmy George, in an interview: “It is a good move for Ditlhokwe. He will be playing for one of the most successful clubs in South Africa. To whom much is given much is expected. He has to justify his worth to Chiefs. “Continuous improvement is the name of the game, and I see him improving at Chiefs. Hopefully through this move, the Zebras will get some respect and recognition that will translate into attracting lucrative friendly games.” But why is Ditlhokwe so consistent in South Africa that he caught the eye of Amakhosi scouts? “What is key to his consistency is that he is a team player,” George said. “He plays for the team and is a good listener. “He is also disciplined and is not your flashy player who wants all the credit. Ditlhokwe is happy to help his team and teammates win. That is his biggest attribute.” But how will he fare? George told The Business Weekly Sports that there is no player who is doing well at Chiefs at present. “But there is a lot for “TT” to learn there in terms of playing for a club that has a big reputation and where the pressure is always high,” George said. “He can only grow in terms of handling pressure at a club like Chiefs. Mind you, he will be playing alongside household names like Itumeleng Khune and Sfiso Hlanti. These are seasoned players, and if you play alongside them, you may learn a thing or two.” George added that he sees Ditlhokwe improving a great deal quite soon and ultimately becoming a solid rock in Chiefs defence. “They may be losing now but I see them improving very soon,” he said. “The same goes for Ditlhokwe. I believe he is aware that winning a trophy or two with a team that is not Chiefs, Orlando Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns does not necessarily mean that you are a good player. “That doesn’t exactly happen until you play for those teams where the pressure is high. Even so, I see Ditlhokwe growing and turning into one of the best defenders in South Africa.” SuperSport coach saddened Meanwhile, South African publication SABC Sport has quoted SuperSport coach in Gavin Hunt as saying he is saddened by Ditlhokwe’s scheduled move. “Obviously, I am very upset about “TT” leaving because this should never happen,” Hunt told SABC. “I wasn’t here, you know. But I know what should have happened and didn’t happen – you are losing a player that is 24 and he will only be at his best at 30 because he is a centre-back. They (centre-backs) improve as they get older. “He has improved immensely in this first round (of the season) since I’ve been here. He’s got two or three goals, which he hadn’t done before (Hunt arrived). We were working on that; he is defending well. All the work that other coaches have done here before, he was coming good and being a rock for the club. It’s highly disappointing.” [/ihc-hide-content]
