The joint business rescue practitioners (BRP) have applied to place troubled Tongaat Hulett Limited into provisional liquidation after the collapse of a rescue deal with Vision, according to a communique released Thursday.

Tongaat Hulett Limited owns Tongaat Hulett Botswana, a Lobatse-based sugar packaging and distribution business behind the widely recognised Blue Crystal brand, commonly known as “Sukiri ya Batswana.” Communiques from South Africa indicate that business rescue practitioners insisted the move does not affect its Botswana subsidiary. “It is important to note that this development relates to Tongaat Hulett Limited in South Africa,” a media released on Thursday said, adding that “it does not affect the ongoing operations of the company’s businesses in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, or Botswana, which continue to trade and operate in the ordinary course under their respective structures”.
