Darts in financial doldrums ahead of regional tourney

Botswana Darts Association (BODA) needs financial assistance to take its team to the 2022 Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Darts Championships in Namibia, the organisationโ€™s mouthpiece, Thato Maphorisa, has said. The country will be represented by a total of 26 players at the competition that is scheduled to take place from 29 August to the 2nd September in Swakopmund, Namibia. โ€œWe are currently bankrupt and are around looking for sponsors to help us get the team to Namibia,โ€ Maphorisa told the Business Weekly Sports in an interview. โ€œWe need financial assistance to cover various costs, travel, playersโ€™ kits, training camps and playersโ€™ allowances.โ€ Funds permitting, BODAโ€™s plan is to run a training camp two weeks prior to the teamโ€™s departure. Selections for the team that will represent Botswana at the competition were held at Orapa Sports Hall earlier this month. The selected players will form part of the Darts national team for a period of two years during which they will also represent Botswana at the international darts assignments. The players include Lone Monowe, Katlego Robert and Lame Poloka (youth Under 25 girls) and Thatayotlhe Robert, Alan Pansiri and Marius Poloka for Under 25 boys. The senior womenโ€™s team comprises Kgarakgatshego Madandume, Bafedile Dube, Maipelo Raseila, Batshane Nguane, Malebogo Chidubi and Thabang Mmopi while the menโ€™s senior team is made up of Orateng Kamanga, Hilton Klein, Mothusi Moakofi, Letlhogela Mosepele, Wame Gomang, Tshireletso Mokalaka, Tomeletso Poloka and Tshupo Ramotlhala. The womenโ€™s veterans category includes Geoginah Motlhagodi, Florah Chikwai and Nchadi Ganaope while the menโ€™s veteran category saw Mareko Madisa, Kelebonye Setlhalefi and Andrew Rankiritlane being selected.
