Lucara Diamond has made yet another stunning discovery—a 1,094-carat diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana. This is not just any other diamond. It is the sixth stone over 1,000 carats Lucara has pulled from the ground, and it is drawing immediate comparisons to the 692-carat gem found last year, which went on to sell for more than $13 million after being polished by HB Antwerp. Lucara has confirmed this stone will also be polished by HB Antwerp, as part of their ongoing agreement.
William Lamb, Lucara’s CEO said the recovery of this exceptional 1,094-carat diamond is a testament to Karowe’s remarkable potential justifying Lucara’s hefty investment in the underground expansion of the mine. He said the project aims to stretch Karowe’s life beyond 2040, confident in its ability to keep producing these massive stones for years to come.
“We are increasingly confident in Karowe’s capacity to produce these legendary diamonds,” he said. With this second massive discovery in 2024 alone, the underground expansion is starting to look like a game-changer. The project is tapping into deeper parts of the South Lobe of the mine, where the rare EMPKS ore type—responsible for these huge finds—resides.”
