Botswana’s reputation as one of the world’s premier safari destinations has received another major international endorsement, with four Wilderness Botswana camps recognised in the inaugural Condé Nast Traveller Triple Crown Awards.

Wilderness Mombo, Little Mombo, DumaTau and Vumbura Plains have been named among a select group of properties across Africa and the Middle East to earn the prestigious distinction, which celebrates hotels and lodges that have achieved recognition across Condé Nast Traveller’s most influential accolades over time, including the Hot List, Gold List and Readers’ Choice Awards.

The four Botswana camps form part of a group of six Wilderness properties recognised globally, alongside Wilderness Bisate in Rwanda and Wilderness Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in Namibia. Notably, four of the six Wilderness camps featured in the UK edition’s Triple Crown Hotels – Africa & Middle East list are located in Botswana.

The recognition reinforces Botswana’s position as a leader in high-value, low-impact tourism and reflects decades of investment in conservation-led hospitality experiences that continue to attract international acclaim. ‘To see four Botswana camps recognised in this way is an extraordinary achievement, not only for Wilderness, but for Botswana’s tourism industry as a whole,’ said Joe Matome, Caretaker Managing Director of Wilderness Botswana. ‘These awards reflect years of dedication by our teams and the strength of Botswana’s tourism model. Wilderness Mombo, Little Mombo, DumaTau and Vumbura Plains are renowned globally for their exceptional guest experiences, but equally for their contribution to conservation, community partnerships and the protection of some of Africa’s most important wilderness areas. This recognition is a testament to the passion and professionalism of our staff, and to a country that continues to demonstrate remarkable leadership in sustainable tourism.’

Often regarded among the finest safari experiences in Africa, the four camps showcase some of Botswana’s most iconic wildlife and wilderness destinations, from the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti region. Together, they have helped position Botswana as a destination of choice for discerning travellers seeking authentic, conservation-focused experiences.

The latest recognition adds to a growing list of international accolades for Wilderness and its Botswana operations. Most recently, Wilderness was named to the Virtuoso Impact List, recognising global leaders in sustainable tourism, while Wilderness properties continue to feature prominently in leading international travel rankings and awards.

For Wilderness, the achievement also highlights the contribution of hundreds of Botswana-based employees whose work underpins the guest experience, from guides and hospitality teams to pilots, conservation specialists, mechanics and support staff. ‘Recognition of this nature is never the result of a single moment,” added Matome. “It is built over many years through consistency, care and a shared commitment to excellence. We are immensely proud of every team member who has contributed to the success of these camps and grateful to the guests who continue to choose Botswana as their safari destination of choice.’

The inaugural Triple Crown recognition marks another milestone for Botswana’s tourism, reinforcing the country’s standing on the global stage. It further celebrates the world-class experiences that continue to emerge from Botswana’s wilderness areas and unique low-volume, high-impact tourism model.
