In a statement issued Thursday, the federation commended the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture, led by Acting Minister Dr Edwin Dikoloti, for driving collaboration across sectors and rolling out measures such as improved surveillance, vaccination and tighter biosecurity controls.
BOFEPUSU said recent engagements with labour representatives, including discussions held on April 22, show government’s willingness to include diverse voices in decision-making. It noted that such consultations are key to ensuring policies are practical, fair and widely accepted.
The federation stressed that clear and accessible information remains critical, particularly for farmers, workers and communities who rely on livestock for survival. It called for stronger civic education and outreach to build trust, encourage compliance and support those on the frontlines of the outbreak.
BOFEPUSU reaffirmed its support for government efforts, pledging to work with authorities and other stakeholders in policy development, implementation and awareness campaigns.
It said sustained collaboration and transparent communication will be vital in protecting livelihoods, safeguarding the livestock sector and securing Botswana’s food security as the country works to contain the disease.
