Leading private tertiary health education provider, Boitekanelo College, recently celebrated 15 years of impacting the health profession in Botswana.

Established in 2007, the school commemorated its 15th anniversary recently and reflected on a decade and a half of producing Botswana’s finest health professionals and contributing to the nation’s economy through job creation and provision of human resources. Speaking at a media engagement recently, the President of Boitekanelo College, Dr Tiroyaone Mampane, said on the 7 May 2007 fifteen years ago, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for commencement of a college that would begin to have a meaningful contribution to the education sector of Botswana several years down the line.

Formed at a time when nobody gave private educators a chance, Boitekanelo came with the sole purpose of playing a critical role in developing human capital for the health sector in Botswana and the southern African region. Dr. Mampane said the college has stood the test of time and is today a pioneer and leader in private health education with its unique industry-driven courses, and has built state-of-the-art infrastructure over and above its strategic partnerships with world renowned institutions.

The college is accredited to Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), Botswana Health Professions Council and the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC). Dr Mampane noted strategic partnerships forged with Botswana’s Ministry of Health and Wellness, eSwatini’s Ministry of Health, and South Africa’s Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town.

He said the institution has 180 employees, 100 of whom are academic staff and 80 support staff. Significantly, Boitekanelo College produced 6 500 graduates over the years, with over 4 000 of them employed. Dr Mampane noted that in addition to diploma and certificate courses offered, Boitekanelo has launched a Centre of Professional Development Studies to provide short courses for in-service training.
