Although relatively new the world over, the topic of mainstreaming has over the past decade become more prominent as more organisations look into, and seek to rectify the relative disparity between people of different genders across the various societal sectors.
The annual Gender Mainstreaming Awards will in September 2021 be making a return for the 9th instalment of the prestigious award ceremony. The Awards aim to encourage private sector buy-in to achieving more meaningful representation of women in the mainstream of business, in efforts to achieve gender equality.
As reflected by history, there exists a glaring difference between men and women in the work place, and the Awards, an event hosted by Business Engage, celebrate various organisations across the African continent who resolve to break this chain, by actively introducing gender specific activities and affirmative action whenever women or men are in a disadvantaged position.
The Gender Mainstreaming Awards have East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa Awards, and organisations across the continent are encouraged to submit nominations in recognition of their efforts in this regard. Categories include among others;
Private sector /State Owned Enterprise Awards
- Equal Representation & Participation Award
- Women Empowerment in the Workplace Award
- Mainstreaming Gender and Disability Award
- Investing in Young Women Award
- Gender Reporting by Listed Companies Award
Gender Mainstreaming Champion Award
Divisions may be split into two streams:
- JSE listed and SOE companies
- non-JSE listed companies.
